Quest trackers do just that: they maintain a list of your quests on your screen without you having to go into the Quests section and track quests manually. In the spirit of recognizing that everyone has a different view of the 'Classic experience', I have reviewed mods ranging from tiny improvements on the native classic UI all the way up to a total hand-holding experience. Personally, I have used mods right from the beginning when I started playing a few months after launch, and remember how many of the mods were even more automated than they are today! That's a question that I leave up to you. Mods have been around since the beginning of WoW, but there is no doubt that there is great philosophical debate about whether using some of these mods breaks the 'Classic experience'. If I had to spend more than a few minutes even figuring out how to launch it, it ended up in the 'too buggy' pile. Mods that were easy to understand, set up, and use were given high marks. In cases where I was testing mods that dictated a character's leveling order and path, I tried to 'break' it by doing things out of order to see how the mod would handle detours. Some characters already had quests in their logs and others were picking up new ones, and I tested how the mod worked under both conditions.

I tested these mods on characters of varying levels and factions when this seemed necessary. If you have any suggestions of ones I should test or possibly re-test, please leave a comment with the name and link to the mod in question. *I tried to test them all but I am sure I missed a few.

Sometimes the synergy between two mods can make a mod more powerful, but often it threw unnecessary levels of complication or more errors.

There are many reasons why a mod might not have made the cut, including but not limited to: I tested many, many more mods than made this guide. I've chosen a variety of mods to suit playstyles and Classic philosophies, from bare-minimum mods to feature-rich addons that you can tweak to your own exact specifications.

This is my opinion about what I found to be the best addons for helping you level your characters in Classic, whether it's your first character or part of a stable of alts. While 'Best' is a subjective term, in this guide, I will dig through the best addons for leveling in Classic and indicate ones I consider essential.
